me, i am lots, but scraps is the reason for this blog in the first place, so i am going to try to link me to the scraps, and then after that i can just write here about me and you can read the other relevant pages about scraps.
since i remember, i have utterly loved clothes, my favorite passed time as a little girl was to dress up in my mothers clothes and twirl around the sitting room with records playing the likes of peter, paul and mary, classical music and my big brothers jive bunny!
dance is another of my passion ……. but let me focus on clothes.
mmmmmm, yes clothes, i have made myself clothes since around the age of 6 when my mother taught me how to knit.
so when my son came along it was perfect! I had a little person to make clothes for. there was a difference though, it was a boy.
in actual fact its been the best bit as my creativeness got a new life, most of the boys clothing around is just so bland.
i started experimenting and scraps is the eventual product …… well lets say its and evolving product, not eventual.
the other aspects of the idea behind scraps is my passion and respect for this planet that we live on and everyone and everything that dwells on it. I just could not justify buying new fabric to make the clothes, when there is so much excess out there which is unused, so i suppose revamping old stuff is just the perfect thing!
thus its very important for me to be ‘fair trade’ in this project so i decided to find someone who could sew near my home. through meeting carol, the lady who sews with me, we hope to start a sewing program for young adults in her area (hillview near lavenderhill in cape town).
lastly i chose to do something that can be done mainly from home as i wanted to spend the most time possible with Ethan, my son. he can play to his hearts content and i can be there playing with him and work at the same time.
oh, and also, i live for beauty.
